Want to change something? Say something.

Want to say something about Ridley's inclusion? Well, here's your chance. Send in a letter and we'll post it here.

Oni333's letter:

Greetings to anyone who reads this. I am just another fan of the Super Smash Brothers series. And like many other fans I have heard about Ridley thousands of times. Ridley is easily THE most talked about character in the Smash Bros. community for various reasons. Ridley is easily the 2d most important character the Metroid series, appearing in close to every game and being planned for some of the games he did not appear in. This has led many people to want the dragon to better represent the Metroid franchise.

However he is more than just a character in a series that needs better representation. Ridley is very unique by himself, being one of the deeper villains in Nintendo. While Ridley looks like a bestial monster capable of thought equal to that of any non-human creature, Ridley is quite intelligent. He leads an army, fights with more than just strength, and has created a robot in his image. Ridley shows an intelligence rivaling any Nintendo villain with a visage of brutality which is one of his major traits, but I will get into that later. The final part of Ridley I will go over here before the finale is just how evil he is, which helps because Smash is a little low on the playable villain roster. Ridley has not only destroyed entire civilizations, but he refuses to stop tormenting Samus Aran, the protagonist of Metroid. His ultimate goal is destruction, unlike “silly” villains like Bowser. He is one of the only Nintendo characters in a main series game to be so ruthless in-game, which would easily make him the most malicious playable character in Smash bros if he were to be included.

Now I know there is the argument of being “too big.” Unfortunately, many people have got on the bandwagon and believed this, leading to persecution and cyber-bullying of fans of Ridley. However, this theory has gained steam without facts to back it up. One of the largest arguments is that Ridley’s character is about being big. This is flat-out untrue. In the Metroid franchise, Ridley is never “the big one.” That title went to Kraid in the 2d games but stands true in the 3d games as well. In most Metroid games, Ridley tends to be one of the smaller bosses. For instance, here are Super Metroid’s bosses. Of them the only one smaller than Ridley is Mother Brain form 1 (not shown). Ridley does not use his normal sprite because he is bent over in that game. This sprite shows him fully extended, still smaller than most.

If Smash bros wants to “stay true to canon” (which it already doesn’t based on many characters acting differently in game and almost zero staying remotely canon), then it does not need to worry about Ridley’s size. It should be clear that Ridley’s character is not defined by his size. In fact, it is defined by his utter brutality in battle, and his intelligence. Now you may be thinking” Ridley is still pretty big. . .” then fear not, because size doesn’t matter. The largest reason is that a character should not be stopped from entering Smash bros for something so trivial. A beloved character from a worthwhile franchise should not be prevented from becoming playable on a technicality. If little things like this stopped characters from getting in there would be no rosters. Nearly every character has been changed, some more drastic than others, for a fighting role. Ridley would not be an exception. Characters like Bowser, Ganondorf, every Pokemon, Olimar, and even Ridley were resized for this game. Ridley was made even larger than usual for the Pyrosphere stage. Now back to Bowser. This is an appearance of Bowser in a game and him in the same game, shorter.

Based on the left picture, Bowser was shrunken down severely for smash. The right picture is also much larger than his smash size. Why can’t Ridley be shrunk down like this?

Of course this was made by a non-professional. Imagine a team of professionals like the Smash development team making that look good. It would look perfect easily.

Another similar size argument is that Ridley’s wings would be too big for the fight. While Charizard is already shows this isn’t too much of an issue, however Ridley doesn’t always have large wings.

As you can see, Ridley has canonically has small wings before. If wingspan is an issue, which It shouldn’t be, then they can just use his older wingspan.

In the end, Ridley is still one of the most important characters not to be playable in the Super Smash Bros. series. He has great potential, but all that he needs is a little push from you Nintendo. You can make an extremely popular character DLC, and rake in the money. And it’s not just Metroid fans that would want this character. Personally I had ties with Ridley before Metroid and am only starting the franchise now, but I could say any of these things before that. Ridley reaches out passed his own games with his popularity. Not to mention, younger children, your target demographic, will also buy Ridley. Because any kid would want to play a purple space dragon like Ridley, just like I do and just like many other people do.

In fact, a 14 year old is making a mod in Brawl in order to make Ridley playable. 14. You don’t want to be outdone by a teenager that young do you Nintendo? Thank you for your time. And if by some miracle, this reaches the desk of Masahiro Sakurai translated to Japanese, please sir, take a rest or vacation. You have poured your heart in soul into making a game the absolute best you can be. No one wants to see you leave and you honestly deserve it for your service to the video game world.

Another Nintendo fan

This isn't a letter but it points out quite a few things wrong with Sakurai's recent interviews.

PresidentWario's letter:

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen, PresidentWario here. This is a letter to Nintendo regarding why I want Ridley in Smash, why he should be in Smash, why I'm still fighting for him to be in Smash, and a few comments about Sakurai's recent interview. Let's begin, shall we?

I grew up with Metroid. My favorite game out of the series is Super Metroid, which is regarded as one of the best games of all time. After growing with Metroid, both the 3D and 2D games, I've realized something; I've realized how much I love Ridley. He's possibly the smartest Nintendo villain there is, and the most sadistic also. While I love Ridley, always have and always will, I've never really supported him until 2014. At first, I was iffy about Ridley getting in. Not because he's "too big" or anything, I just couldn't see it happening. But then I stumbled upon the Ridley thread on Smashboards, which changed my view on Ridley being in Smash. Ever since then, I've been supporting him, through thick and thin I'll be supporting him. Even after Sakurai's recent interview about Ridley I haven't gave up, it made me more determined to support him until he gets into Smash. Wanna know why? Because if you're passionate about something, you fight for it, and I feel passionate about Ridley.

Why should he be in Smash? Well let's see uhm.... the same reason that Ganondorf, Bowser, King DeDeDe, and Wolf were/are in Smash; Because they're villains, great villains, and Smash is in need of some more villains. There's also the fact that uhm... the only Metroid reps are two Samus's. You guys may be thinking "why Ridley?" and I'll tell you why:

1. Who's better to represent Metroid other than Samus's own arch rival Ridley?

2. Ridley's one of the only allstars of Nintendo left that have yet to be playable.

3. There are barely anybody from the Metroid series that would actually fit well in Smash.

Now,the you may be thinking "but there are other characters who would work better than Ridley" but who? Anthony Higgs? Really? The Prime Hunters? Do they even have enough star power to hold up a roster spot for Metroid? Dark Samus? Okay, that would be a fine choice but.... three Samus's? Really? Point being, the only one left is Ridley.

There are people who try to argue about Ridley's inclusion, while I don't want to touch too much on the subject as people have already said what has to be said about those things but I will say this: Size isn't important to Ridley's character, hell, it means nothing to it and I'll go more in depth into this later.

After all the crap I (and every other supporter) has gone through, why do I still support? Well, it's simple, and I've said it earlier in this letter, if you are passionate about something, then you fight for it. I've met some wonderful people after I started to support Ridley and I encourage them to keep fighting, no matter how hard the bullying and harassment from others get, just don't let go. Once you let go, there's no point in coming back because you'll go through the same crap again, and you'll feel even worse that time around. You should embrace the hate and let it flow through you but never let it out, because one slip up can make things fall down. There is too much for me, and everyone else to lose if we stopped supporting Ridley, we've made it this far, we've made it through bullying and harassment, we've made it through deconfirmations and fake Ridley related leaks, we've made it past Sakurai's interview and we'll make it past anything else in our way. Once again, I love Ridley, all the other supporters love Ridley, and this is why we still support him. We will never give up, we will never falter, not today, not tomorrow. I still support his inclusion into Smash because I'm too passionate about him to let go.

Now onto Sakurai's interview... oh, where do I begin, where do I begin... oh, I know, accurate portrayals of characters:

There is gonna be some major nit-picking here, but using Ridley's size as an excuse not to scale him down, which I'll get into at the end of this, is a bit silly.

Ganondorf doesn't fight anything like he does in Smash.

Bowser does a drop kick.

Bowser, DK, and others use animal voices rather then their own in-game voices.

Mario needs a fire flower to shoot fire balls.

Olimar, Kirby, DeDeDe, and more were resized.

Fox, Falco, and Wolf don't even fight outside of their vehicles EXCEPT for Assault's multiplayer but they don't fight like they do in Smash even in there.

Some Pokemon moves in Smash aren't even actual Pokemon moves.

Duck Hunt doesn't even do the original laugh

And most of all, Ridley wouldn't even fight for anyone but himself. That's right, I'm referencing him joining your team on Pyrosphere

Point being: More than half of the characters in the game aren't exactly good potrayals of their characters, why is Ridley the exception? Is it personal bias? Maybe, but I'm not finished yet.

The last thing I want to talk about is how Sakurai basically implied that being big is apart of Ridley's characters when no, it really isn't. Ridley size isn't that memorable, especially once you compare it to other bosses like Kraid. When compared to Kraid, he looks like he's Samus's size!

Hell, Ridley is actually one of the smallest bosses out of the entire franchise, as we can see in this pic:

It may not be the best pic to use as a comparison but it gives you an idea that Ridley isn't all that big compared to other bosses. Point being: His size isn't important to his character at all when you take all this into question. He may be remembered as that "big metal dragon thing you fought in that old gamecube game" by casual fans but by hardcore fans, he'll always be remembered by being intelligent, sadistic, and Samus's arch nemesis, nothing more, nothing less. And Hell, what casual fan wouldn't want to play as Ridley in Smash? If you showed them a pic of Ridley and ask them if they would like him to be playable, it's a good chance that they'll say yes.

Anyway, that's all I have to say today, I hope you enjoy reading this, and Sakurai, I respect everything you've done for the game but I hope you put Ridley either as DLC for Smash 4 or on the roster in Smash 5.

Wolley2xjd's letter:

Hello my name is Dwayne but most people know me has Wolley2xjd, has you know I am a Ridley supporter and thinks he should be in Super Smash brothers for 3DS and Wii U has DLC now before I type anything else I'll give my 2 main reasons why I want Ridley in Smash Brothers.

1. Giant Purple Space Pirate Dragon **** YEAH!

2.I think Smash brother could use some more badguy like him and King Krool but If i had too pick.....why not both?

So now that you my reasons why I want Ridley in Smash brothers let me show you guys something that happened recently, Sakurai has finally spoke about Ridley being in Smash Brothers.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/11/19/why-ridley-isnt-playable-in-smash-bros

So basically he believe's that Ridley CAN WORK but he also believe's that resizing Ridley would ruin his character and wouldn't look right, he also said that it would be kinda hard to make him into a playble character so he made him a "Stage Assist Character" instead, Sorry but that sounds like a very lazy reason why he shouldn't be playble also he contradicts himself, Week 26 June 23 Pic of the day and week 8 pic of the day feb 19, here I'll post them here.

http://smashbros-miiverse.com/pic-of-the-day

See contradicts himself, he also contradicts himself because there's alot of things in smash borthers that doesn't happen when the fighters are in their own game.

Sonic can swin for a short while but can't in his own game

Ganondorf only use's his fist to slam the floor not to be a Captain Falcon clone

Mario needs a fire flower to shot fire balls

Thunder Jolt, Puff up, Aura Strom aren't pokemon moves

Ridley in brawl never shots fireballs in his normal form, only has Meta Ridley, he's also for some reason a Dyna Blade clone

Giga Bower isn't in any Mario Game

Fox, Falco, Captain Falcon and Wolf never fought out their vehicle's in thier OWN games

Ridley in Smash 4 helps the player when you hit him enough time's which is COMPLETELY OUT CHARACTER FOR HIM!

I can keep this list going but I think you guys get the point, if Sakurai thinks Ridley would be to hard to resize then he needs to see what :BaganSmashBrosplz: been doing.

This guy is 14 and he was able to resize Ridley not once but TWICE!

Super Metroid

And Other M

So you're telling me that a 14 year old can do something that a whole team of video game developers can't even try to do?

Anyway who said it had to one of these Designs he can make his own design like with Samus Boots and Pit's Redesign he can easily resize him to make him big but playble size like in the pictures above, it ain't rocket science bub.

So with that said I wouldn't be surprised him he make it in the next game, remember Sakurai didn't think that an Animal Crossing character, Mii, and Pac-man wouldn't wouldn't for these reasons

Pac-man-Half a pizza has a character?

He used his Pac-man world design and some attacks he turns into his pizza form.

Mii-Wouldn't feel right seeing Miis punching and Kicking.

He gave them Swords, Arm canons, and Well Punching and Kicking.

Villager-To peaceful.

They use axes, grass pulling, and bowling balls.

So with that Sakurai can easily Redesign Ridley to be a playable character in Smash Brother and anyone who says other wise is a chump.
